Pre-Professional Program 2017-18 Season

Welcome to the Edge Studios Classical Ballet Division, Pre-Professional Program for the 2017/18 season.

Students will have the opportunity to train in our spacious facilities with daily intensive training in ballet, pointe, classical repertoire, contemporary and Pilates. This program is a unique and excellent opportunity for the young dancer to experience the highest levels of coaching at an internationally recognized level.

The Edge Dance Program prides itself on the education and training of a complete classical dancer. One that has the solid technical and artistic abilities to further themselves to a professional classical ballet company, with the depth of movement and technique in contemporary dance to complete the package.

This program runs after school daily at Edge from 3:30- 6:30pm and includes classes on Saturdays. We limit the amount of enrollment available as our intention is to keep class sizes small for a very personalized approach to training.

Current and graduated Edge students have had acceptances, full and partial scholarships and placements to summer, post graduate programs and jobs at the Royal Ballet School, The Paris Opera Ballet School, The Dutch National Ballet School, The English National Ballet School, The Australian Ballet School, The School of American Ballet, Houston Ballet Academy, Canada’s National Ballet School,  Ballet Tucson, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, L’Ecole Superieure de Ballet du Quebec, The School of Pennsylvania Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Cirque du Soleil, The University of Arizona Dance Program, The Harid Conservatory, Joffrey Ballet School, Complexions, The Goh Ballet Academy, Arts Umbrella BFA Program, The Boston Ballet School, The Kirov Academy, The Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, The Rock School, The Gelsey Kirkland Academy, Ballet Arizona, Ballet Chicago and The American Ballet Theatre just to name a few. ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE VOCATIONAL EXAMINATIONS

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is a well-

run organization highly respected in the dance community. It is a world leader in classical ballet syllabus and examination, endorsed by the Queen of England.

Edge Studios Classical Ballet Division will offer the opportunity to complete the RAD examinations. All students will be required to attend vocational syllabus classes per week according to the level they are studying.

Completing the exam however is optional. This will be recommended for most of our students, however it is the mutual decision of the program directors, RAD instructor and individual student on the completion of the exam, spring 2018.

Benefits of RAD Syllabus:

  • Provides consistency in training, measured weekly and annually as assessment in areas of technique, musicality and performance, attention given equally to all areas of technique (barre, centre practice and pirouettes, adage, allegro, pointe and variations.
  • Builds stamina through training each week in working towards a goal
  • Helps create a solid technical foundation leaving no spaces or gaps in vocabulary learned

Benefits of RAD Examinations:

  • The follow through and completion of the high level Vocational exams shows great discipline and tenacity for the work field in general. Employers/heads of Ivy League schools love to see high accomplishment achieved while completing education.
  • Examinations help students to cope with pressure while young and build towards highly pressured situations such as auditions, competitions, stage performance, and the top RAD assessments- Solo Seal and Genee International Ballet Competition
  • Students are immediately put on a world wide scale for assessment

RAD is an available avenue to pursue in the launching of a substantial career in not only performance, but dancer transition options as well.  It is the worlds largest organization of ballet teachers and educators and will open more doors with every opportunity taken by a student to utilize to what is being offered.
