5 Ways to Stay Fit Over the Holidays

Between work parties, family visits and last minute shopping, the holidays can be a chaotic time for everyone! With all the hustle and bustle, trying to stay active can sometimes fall by the wayside. If you’re not careful, with all the festive cheer, it’s easy to notice an extra 10 pounds getting friendly with your hips. Here are 5 tips to help keep you fit over the holidays while not missing out on any of the fixings!

1)      Plan your workout in advance

Writing your workout plan in your calendar will increase the odds of you following through with your commitment immensely! Schedule your workout at least a week in advance, that way; if you know you’re going to have to miss a day or two, you can kick the intensity of your workouts up on either side of those days.

2)      Get up and go early

The early bird really does get the worm! As family commitments increase over the holidays, try getting up 30 minutes earlier than you normally would to squeeze in your workout. That way, you won’t have the burden of it sitting on your shoulders throughout the rest of the day and you’ll still have time to get everything done that you needed to!

3)      Get a training partner

It’s easy to crawl back under the covers and justify postponing your workout when you’re going by yourself. Having someone to hold you accountable and keep you motivated will leave you less likely to skip with the guilt of hanging your partner out to dry.

4)      Pick and choose your indulgences

If you like food, there’s no time like the holidays and it’s easy to get carried away with multiple servings. It’s okay to indulge but stick to the foods and treats that you really enjoy and try to keep it in moderation. Remember that hidden liquid calories count too!

5)      Workouts from home count too!

One of the biggest reasons for not staying fit when times get busy is that “it gets tough to make it to the gym”. Don’t forget that simply doing 3-4 sets of body weight exercises such as push-ups, squats, lunges, pull-ups and sit-ups can still qualify as a solid workout!
